The main goal of the COMPOSE project is to create an IoT platform geared mainly for developers. The platform consists of an all-engulfing ecosystem which aims to ease the task of creating IoT based applications. The COMPOSE platform relieves the developer of all “systems” aspects of the application, and lets the developer concentrate on what he know to do best, namely creating the IoT application of his dreams. In order to achieve that the platform takes care of all data management related aspects, such as registration and bidirectional communication between the platform and the smart objects, in addition to making the data accessible and interactive via a flexible programmable streams topology infrastructure. The developer interacts with the platform via the developer’s portal, which is a visual based programming environment tailored especially for the IoT, in which interaction with smart objects and their inclusion in applications is made easy. In addition, the developers’ portal helps developers discover existing building blocks they can re-use, and obtain recommendations and composition suggestions. Once the application has been created, with a click of a button it gets deployed to the secure cloud based platform which hosts and manages all COMPOSE entities. The cloud platform is a customization of a general purpose PaaS to the IoT world, adding multiple layers of security, data management, discovery, communication, monitoring, and workflows orchestration. portal helps developers discover existing building blocks they can re-use, and obtain recommendations and composition suggestions. COMPOSE started its last year in November 2014, with a first version of the integrated platform available. We expect to have one major refresh to the platform by the end of the project and a minor refresh at the end of April.
