Cisco is the worldwide leader in IT that helps companies seize the opportunities of tomorrow by proving that amazing things can happen when you connect the previously unconnected.
Designed in response to a call for projects from the European Commission, the project lays the groundwork for the development of tomorrow’s electricity grids. GRID4EU brings together a consortium composed of 6 European energy distributors (ERDF, Enel Distribuzione, Iberdrola Distribucion, CEZ Distribuce, Vattenfall Eldistribution and RWE) and 27 partners overall (manufacturers like CISCO, utilities and research centers). It tests the potential of smart grids in various areas such as microgrids, renewable energy integration, grid automation, energy storage, energy efficiency and load reduction.
The European Commission-funded iCity project aims to ‘bootstrap’ the open innovation ecosystems and widen support for co-creation of public interest services in urban Smart Cities spaces. With Cisco as the platform architectural leader, iCity aims to integrate a common technological platform upon which services, designed and instantiated by interested user-driven open innovation ecosystems, can be offered to the citizens throughout a City Open apps repository.
