5G is the next step in the evolution of mobile communication, expected to be introduced in 2020. It will include the LTE evolution as well as a new radio-access scheme and will be a key component of the future networked society aiming at providing essentially unlimited access to information and sharing of data anywhere and anytime for anyone and anything. Thus, 5G will not only be about mobile connectivity for people, but also to provide ubiquitous connectivity for any kind of device and any kind of application that may benefit from being connected.
Ericsson’s exhibit will show the road to 5G, including not only radio access but also the overall network evolution and how it can be used to transform our society. Usage scenarios and technologies, several which have been researched in EU-funded projects such as METIS, will be presented, together with the overall time plan and its role in the networked society.
