Startup Europe

The session will focus on the foreseen activities that will be developed whiting the Startup Europe Team, more specifically: the development of the ICT13 project on Hubs of Startup, Scalups and Corporate launched by youngsters and females fail and succeed in developing high-growth innovation potential in Europe. Additional ambitions include sharing the development of the initiative based on the contract services, networks and studies on web entrepreneurship and share the ambition regarding the Future Work Programme.

Objectives:

  • To share the existing developments within the Startup Europe initiative
  • To share the future opportunities for tech startups, ecosystem and company builders
  • To reach out to additional innovation stakeholders, including startups and SMEs.
  • To address & discuss insights with respect to Net Futures challenges, trends and opportunities that appeal to these different audiences – bringing them all together in the plenary sessions and networking sessions, to allow cross-fertilization across stakeholders groups and industries.

Emilio CorchadoCEO and FOUNDER of BISITE ACCELERATOR
Emilio Corchado is coordinator of WELCOME project, connecting 5 major EU ecosystems, and partner of Startup Europe Partnership, both project under Startup Europe Initiative. He is an innovation expert hired by international organizations such as the European Commission; the Grant Agency Czech Rep., the Spanish National Agency of Evaluation and Prospective. He has collaborated with tech and mobile startups on close to 40 projects. He has patented software models and has the intellectual property of over 10 software tools and models related to the web and mobile technology. He is chair of IEEE-Spain Section 2014-15 and he has actively contributed to several past and current EU projects including ENGINE, SOFTCOMP, IT4Innovation, ICT COST Action IC1303, EMaCS, IntelliCIS and NISIS.
Gianluca Dettori
Gianluca DettoriFounder and Chairman of dPixel
Gianluca Dettori is the founder and president of dPixel, a Venture Capital advisory firm specialized in the digital sector, with over 20 investments including Sardex, Kiver, Seolab, Mangatar, SmartRM, Eco4Could, Viamente, Ciceroos, Cortilia, Iubenda.

Gianluca, 48 years old, has been working on the Internet for 20 years and on Venture Capital for the last 15 years.

He started his career as a manager in Italia Online (Olivetti), then General Manager of Lycos Bertelsmann to launch the search engine in Italy. In 1999 he founded Vitaminic, a platform for digital music distribution, holding the position of Chief Executive Officer and taking it to the listing on the Nuovo Mercato Stock Exchange (part of the Italian Stock Exchange) in 2000. Following the merger with Buongiorno SpA in 2003, he served as Head of Mergers & Acquisition for the Buongiorno Group and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.

In the last 10 years, Gianluca has personally followed over 10 startups in the digital industry and medical, first as Angel Investor (im3D, Sitonline, Urbissimo, Banzai, Liquid) and then as dPixel partner.
He writes about Internet and Venture Capital in Italy for the Italian edition of Wired magazine and for “Il Sole 24 Ore -Nova100 ” and CheFuturo.

Graduated in Economics at the University of Turin, he founded and was the first president of the IAB (Internet Advertising Bureau) in Italy. He is also co-founder of First-Generation Network and a Fulbright mentor. Gianluca is Fellow of the Society Kauffman and BMW Stiftung Foundation. From 2014 he is Advisor of the European Commission for Future Internet Accelerators

Sergey Filippov

Dr. Sergey Filippov is associate director of the Lisbon Council, a leading Brussels-based innovation think tank. He oversees several initiatives such as the European Digital Forum, liaises with policymakers, businesses and civil society, and conducts actionable policy-oriented research. Prior to joining the Lisbon Council, he was assistant professor of innovation management at Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands), where he taught project management and conducted research in innovation management, international business and project management.
Dr. Filippov successfully completed a doctoral programme in economics and policy studies of technical change at UNU-MERIT, a research and training center of the United Nations University and Maastricht University.He holds a Master’s degree in Management of the European metropolitan region from Erasmus University Rotterdam and an Executive Master’s degree in international and European relations & management from University of Amsterdam. He has published over 30 international refereed articles, book chapters, practitioner and policy-oriented reports, and presented his research findings at a variety of academic, practitioner and policy conferences, seminars and workshops worldwide.
Michela Michilli

Michela Michilli is the coordinator of the task force “ Startup Lazio” in Lazio Innova the Financial Development Agency for the economic development and technological innovation of Lazio Region.
The objective of Startup Lazio is to improve, integrate, design and implement tools, instruments and financing for startups with the purpose of facilitating the creation of innovative startups, attracting new startups in Lazio and supporting startups in their scale-up process.
In this respect, Michela has been coordinating TWIST DIGITAL, part of the Startup Europe initiative of the EC.
TWIST DIGITAL aims at connecting four existing local web entrepreneurship startup ecosystems and hubs, providing new services for web entrepreneurs aiming at scaling up and competing in the global market.

In the recent past Michela has been the Head of “EU Programmes & International Initiatives” Unit in Filas.

Expert in economics, finance and international markets, she has acquired a long experience in market analysis for the ICT and media, the creative industries and the cultural heritage sectors, collaborating with leading international companies and managing international projects since 1996.

She was the coordinator of the European project FAME (Facilitating Access and Mobilisation of European finance for growth of creative industries), a EU CIP co-funded project under the brand-new initiative named European Creative Industry Alliance in support of the creative industries.

Within FAME, Mrs Michilli was designing and implementing innovative consultancy, coaching and business services to support European companies in their investment readiness and access to finance. Cross-border investments ,equity finance and financial leverage are also main topics and issues to be addressed within FAME.

Ms. Michilli chaired the Enterprise Europe Network Creative industry Sector Group and participated as member of the group for Access to Finance in ECIA, Think Tank for Creative industry and EBAN.

Eurico Neves

Eurico Neves has 20 years’ experience in preparing and/or executing investment/research projects for R & D and 15 years’ experience in the evaluation and ranking of international R&D projects.
Since 1997 Eurico Neves is the founder and CEO of INOVA+, currently a top player in Europe in the field of innovation services and the 10th SME in Europe in terms of participation in research programmes. In 15 years the company has successfully managed over 100 international innovation projects, has provided provides strategic consultancy services in innovation and technology to international institutions, has launched a seed capital fund to support the start-up and has become the innovation partner and services provider of over 80 companies in Portugal and abroad. Before creating INOVA+, Eurico Neves was Member of the board and Chief Innovation Officer at Novabase Porto and prior to that he was responsible for the management of the European Network of Innovation Relay Centres at the European Commission. Earlier he was also Export Manager for EFACEC Sistemas de Electrónica.

Eurico neves holds a Msc in Electrical engineering and computers and a Master in Management and International Markets.

He is specialized in European policies on research & development, innovation, urban and sustainable development and information technologies, has authored more than 50 publications in these fields and is a regular speaker on in conferences at national and international level.

Brian O'Flaherty

Brian O’Flaherty is the Director of the MSc(Innovation, Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship) and Postgraduate Certificate (Innovation, Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship ) since 2011. Previously he was Assistant Dean of Commerce Faculty (1998-2000) and Developer of Commercialisation Modules for PhD students and embedded PG Cert in (Innovation, Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship) in Structured PhD in Tyndall National Institute.
Brian O’Flaherty is currently the coordinator of EU-XCEL project.
Regarding his education; he got a Master in Computer Science from the National University of Ireland, Cork and did a PhD in Management Science at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland.
Brian O’Flaherty is in charge of the supervision of students from MBS(Business Information Systems) and MSc(Innovation, Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship) who have won awards at the All-Ireland Enterprise Awards from 2005-2012.
Igor Tasic

Mr. Tasic is currently the co-founder and CEO of Aurora Net Ventures, an incubator
focused on e-commerce and marketplace initiatives. He is also the co-founder of
Cloud Incubator Hub, a start-up accelerator in Murcia (Spain) and leading consortium
member of the Scale-up project (an European Commission funded project focused on
supporting Internet of Things ventures within Europe).
Previously, Mr. Tasic was the founder and CEO of Atlantico Partners, a strategyconsulting
firm supporting companies around the world to do business in Brazil and
vice-versa. He was also a senior associate at the global strategy management
consultancy Booz & Company and prior to that, he has held several executive
positions at various multinational companies, such as DuPont, Telefonica,
Votorantim, and Itaú with assignments in Latin America, USA, Europe, and the
Middle East, working in a wide range of sectors.
Mr. Tasic is currently pursuing a PhD in entrepreneurship at the Complutense
University of Madrid. He holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and FGVEAESP,
a BA in Business Administration from FGV-EAESP as well as a BA in
Economics from University of São Paulo (FEA-USP).

Philippe Vanrie

Philippe Vanrie is the CEO of EBN, the leading pan-European Network bringing together 200+ accredited Business & Innovation Centers (EU-BICs), Innovation-based Incubators, Accelerators and Entrepreneurship Centers across Europe and beyond (Brazil, Russia, India, China, Taiwan, Chili, Egypt, Lebanon, Canada, …), a community gathering thousands of smart innovators and entrepreneurs.

An experienced expert in innovation, incubation, entrepreneurship and economic development, Philippe has a long collaboration experience with the European Commission (EC), and other European institutions (EIB, EPO), as well as the European Space Agency (ESA), and a series of national & regional Governmental Agencies. He is active in various EC Experts Groups, such as the “Smart Specialization Strategy (S3)” Mirror Group, an area where he developed a specific expertise. On the private sector side, he initiated Open Innovation partnerships between small businesses and large Corporations such as Procter & Gamble, Oracle, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco, and Auchan.

Engineer by education, Philippe started his career at the University of Brussels and then joined the first EU-BIC in Liège.
