The protection of users and Internet-connected devices, such as mobile phones and laptops, has typically been achieved through installing appropriate specific tools on each device (e.g. a personal firewall, malware analyser, parental control application). This model requires computational resources, per device application availability and usually it makes security controls a real puzzle for non-technically savvy users.

A more simple approach is possible: offload security controls from the user terminals to a (trusted and secure) network node independent of user devices. Also offering a unified and friendly language avoiding technical jargon.

Behind this idea lies SECURED project. The SECURED objective is to design and prototype a trusted and secure virtual execution environment (hosted at a network edge device) to permit different users to execute on-demand their preferred security applications and using a familiar language to define their security needs.
